Peter's Overland Jeep Gladiator Phase 2

You may recognize the Overland Gladiator build we finished earlier this year – the rig came back for round two. The 20-inch Fuel wheels and Toyo MT's are a good combination, but we knew we wanted a more robust setup. Peter is planning on conquering trails and roads such as the Trans-America Trail, the Dempster Highway and the Pan American Highway. The Yokohama Geolandar M/T was chosen for its rock-solid “GEO-SHIELD” technologies from casing to tread. These 37-inch tires provide crushing performance, intimidating looks, and an industry-leading tread life.

We rounded out the build with a set of tough and durable TeraFlex Nomad Off-Road Wheels. The new modular plug system accepts an air deflator valve that allows you to quickly air down the tires to a preset pressure. The adjustment screw allows you to set the preset pressure at any psi as low as 10 psi. These deluxe metallic wheels measure in at 17 by 8.5 inches with a 0 offset.

Adding additional clearance for the larger tires came in two formats. We installed Artec aluminum inner fenders front and back along with a Quake Led 9.5 by .75 inch slim chop kit. The new turn signals use a sequential switchback, allow for additional clearance, and brace the front fender. In front the Artec Industries vented fenders provide additional air flow and are designed to work with the Falcon shocks. In the rear a set of Artec Gladiator inner fenders were chose also. The inner fenders allow you to remove the factory inner plastic along with the plastic trim along the edge of the fender. This provides the clearance to run larger tires without the need for a large lift.

Now we could not stop there. We did need more room for traversing all kinds of obstacles off road. Clayton Off Road provided a 2.5 inch Overland Plus Lift kit with all new adjustable control arms and track bars. Made in the USA the Clayton Off Road kit comes with a lifetime warranty. All eight of the adjustable control arms include dual durometer Giro Joint bushings at both ends. These are free pivoting, self-centering, silent in operation, and maintenance-free bushings that make this kit ride like butter no matter the terrain. In the Jeep Gladiators case a triple rate coil spring is used as it is better suited due to the additional cargo area and weight.
